This issue was raised with the FC yesterday at Sherwood

Chris made it absolutly clear that motorbikes are not permitted in the woods.

The best way to stop this is to report it when it happens to both the FC and the Police

If enough incidents are reported the police will have to take action

So if we want to keep Motorbikes out of the woods then it is up to all the users to take action

Go on, be a good citizen.

FC  e-mail - enquiries@forestry.gsi.gov.uk

Do not phone 999 for this type of incident

Good call - I was going to post this too but you beat me to it!

As well as them being totally illegal, riding in the woods is knackering all our hard work on the tracks.  2 minutes fun with a 2-stroke takes several hours to repair with a shovel!

Not only that, but if someone is injured in any way in the woods - be it a bike, motorbike or horse rider, dog walker or rambler - there is always chance that there could be a claim against the FC.  Chris pointed out that a claim against the FC comes out of operating income and therefore effectively limits the activity of the FC during that fiscal year.

Safe woods = no injuries = no claims = more money to provide better services

This is the jist behind the initial phase of the DH tracks - to ensure safety to both riders and other forest users.  For that, we need some funding - which we won't get if the FC are in court - so let's stop the illegal riders!

Sorry  :-\

I was typing up the minutes and remembered it being mentioned, but wasn't sure who'd aggreed to do it, so thought I'd whack it up quick, better owt than nowt,  ;D feel free to make sticky or lock, or use your admin powers in whaever way you see fit to make it in to a propper anouncment type thing  8)

I wasn't sure which police staion was closest or deals with the area so I put both Deepcar and Hillsborourgh down, and I couln't find one local number for reporting none emergancy crime.

Is there a preference which number to call  ? If we log most compaints to one single location will it prompt quicker action ? Ive programmed the Hillsborough one into my mobile, wont hesitate to call next time I see the motor bikes.

There are a lot of mini motos up there at moment, often kids at the bombhole near the top carpark usually. Ive also seen a line of 10-12 of them come over the heath into the woods and down part of the black route.

I was up there today, rode in from Stocksbridge and the tracks through the woods there were completely churned up. Not only that but the guys were on trials bikes and were climbing some of the downhill runs making them as churned, almost to the point of not actually being able to cycle down them.
I must agree with you terratag, it does seem a little petty reporting these guys, but the place was nearly impassable - I expect a bit of mud in the winter, but it was like a ploughed field on some of the sections.
Wouldn't be too bad, but I was in a mard anyway cos my stead decided to break its rear hanger and shed the rear derailler leaving me with what was simply a single speed for most of the day (after the joys of having to shorten a well mud caked chain) :(

hi all,
last time i was nearly knocked off by some prat on a kids motorbike thing i rang the police,
(2202020) fat good that did,
the woman on the end of the line didn't even know where grenoside was  ;)
it was obviouse i was bothering her by actualy reporting something like motor bikes in the forrest,
i asked her what the chance was they'd get a car to make an apearance, but she'd already answered with her total lack of interest  >:(
still,as long as they'r riding motorbikes round ecclesfield park they'l not be riding through the forrest eh  ::)
by the way, love the forum  ;D

some complete silly person of a chav ran me off the track on friday dinnertime,
near to the entrance of the woods (next to mid and steven ln)
i saw him coming, complete with even smaller little kid clinging for dear life on the front  :(
he looked up . . accelerated . . took my line (to avoid some mud) leaving me with nowhere to go but the undergrowth  ::)
i did shout at him but he just accelerated toward a woman with a small dog,
it was one of those days where everyone said hello to you,it felt great to have been out in the forrest, and then the chav  >:(
still...next time he's getting a nice peice of brass rod through his front wheel, and then round his neck  :o ::)

Was full of them today...

The only good thing is they kept off the tracks for once but we should still be given powers to shoot them all or summat.

Can't see how they could be kept out at all, especially mini bikes and most of the time people aren't going to report them to the police which seems to be the only option.
