Official Wharncilffe Dig Day
After planning for a long time, the first official dig day is here! First let's clarify a few myths before filling you in on the details;
Almost two years back a crew of riders realised the woods needed official work to keep the trails viable. The riders formed the "Wharncliffe Riders Collective", who are now affiliated with SingleTraction, the North's leading trail builders. Singletraction provide support with dig days as well as the essential insurance to cover work done on the FC's land during the offical dig days.
Official dig days have been proven by the XC crew, who have already cut hundreds of metres of quality XC track in the woods. The days are not only productive, producing high quality, sustainable trails built to IMBA guidelines - but they are also fun with a chance to meet new people and ride the new sections.
What's the plan
The XC track has started. The plan for the downhill is in theory simpler as the tracks exist already. They just need some love - rock armouring and drainange to handle weather and signage and re-routing to handle traffic (keeping all user groups of the forest safe and sound). While we are at it, the plan is to add flow and carefully built features that are challenging but fun to ride. Something for everyone, with safety in mind it the rough summary.
When and Where
Work starts on the 'Fast Track' on the 11th Feb. If you are free, you are welcome to help dig and have your say. Either way, if you are riding in the woods that weekend, please read the forum, be aware that trail closures will be in place. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
One final plea : the local riders have worked hard to establish a working relationship with the Forestry Commission, allowing us to build and develop the woods. Digging outside of authorised dig days is actively discouraged. Please don't add your own lines - chip in to make the existing ones kick ass! While you might think you are making it 'better' for one afternoon, ghetto digging may loose the spot for riders for good. Remember; The woods are for life, not just the school holidays!
Offical announcement on the forum
Lastly, the Five Ten importers Bigstone look like they will attend, lend a hand and also show samples of the new Impact range including Sam Hill and Nathan Rennie models. Head up and move a rock or two for a preview.
